Abstract

Muslims own a very great heritage full of what mankind needs in the various stages of its life. The Holy Qur’an represents the foundation of that Islamic legacy , because it is from God Almighty, the All-Knowing, the All-Wise, as it set for mankind a complete system that achieves their happiness and guides them to the right path in all of those areas, through its teachings that are included in the Holy Qur’an as well as the Holy Prophetic Sunnah.

The Holy Quran is the Devine constitution that regulates the life and affairs of Muslims . Therefore, to pay attention to it, recite, understand and learn it, was one of the most important priorities of Muslims to deal with the book of their Lord in all ages since the first day of revelation. The first seed sown for that was in those sacred teachings of the Prophet, which emphasized the significance of the reciting the Quran, understanding its texts, reflecting its verses and taking it as a beacon of guidance in all aspects of life. The conduct of the Prophet was an embodiment for the connotations of the Holy Quran. He used to emphasize the significance of the Qur'an through reciting it to his companions interpreting it, verse by verse. The companions and his interpretation of it to them verse by verse, even word by word, so that they might understand the words of God first, and to emphasize to them its high status, sanctity and importance in their lives. That was the first phase of interpreting the Holy Qur’an, which is known Interpretation with reference to the Sunna) then he followed that with several steps, including the special interest in some of his companions and his family did to know the truth of the Qur’an and understand its secrets and meanings to spread that among the Muslims. This care was evident in the abundance of hadiths reported about the Holy Qur’an, and what was reported from them in interpreting its verses, as they are the equals of the Holy Qur’an and the most knowledgeable in understanding its meanings and connotations.
